Your phone is part of the relocation system
Phone access affects maps, banking, airport transport, landlord messages, delivery apps, two-factor authentication, and emergency calls.
Set up connectivity before arrival so you are not solving it while tired at the airport.
- Check whether your phone is unlocked.
- Save critical addresses offline.
- Keep access to your home number for bank verification.
- Install an eSIM before travel if your device supports it.
eSIM versus local SIM
An eSIM is often best for the first few days. A local SIM or local plan may be cheaper for long stays.
The best setup is often both: arrival eSIM first, local plan after you understand coverage and requirements.
Do not break two-factor access
Before changing numbers, check which accounts use SMS verification. Banks, email, tax accounts, payment apps, and work tools can lock you out if you lose the old number too early.
Keep backup codes and recovery email access ready.
