Deposit rules vary by country and city
Rent deposits abroad can range from one month to several months, and some markets also include agency fees, guarantor requirements, prepaid rent, or utility activation costs.
Before signing, ask for the total cash due before move-in, not only the monthly rent.
- Ask how the deposit is held and returned.
- Confirm whether agency fees are legal and who pays them.
- Request lease terms in writing before transferring money.
- Keep receipts and inventory photos.
Furnished does not mean fully ready
A furnished apartment may still lack bedding, kitchen tools, cleaning supplies, work equipment, and small appliances.
Add a home setup line even when the listing says furnished.
Protect your arrival budget
The most common mistake is using the same cash pool for temporary housing and lease deposits. Keep them separate so a longer search does not destroy your move-in budget.
If you are unsure about the market, book enough temporary housing to avoid signing under pressure.
